We're excited to share the latest updates on our transformative New Modern Monessen initiative. Project Greyhound Rising is designed to keep you updated about what is happening across our schools as we work to create an innovative, supportive, and future-ready learning environment for all students.

🏗️ Infrastructure Improvements

We’re making great strides in upgrading our facilities:

  • 🏫 Energy-efficient HVAC systems are being installed at the Middle/High School.

  • 🏗️ Roofing improvements are underway to ensure our buildings are protected for years to come.

  • 🏋️ High School Gymnasium repairs are progressing well. All structural damage is being repaired.

🚀 Innovative Learning Spaces

Our new learning environments are taking shape:

  • 📚 The Hound Hub (Middle/High School) and Pup Hub (Elementary Center) media centers are nearing completion.

  • ☕ NEW! Student Coffee Shop in the Hound Hub – A real-world learning opportunity where students will run and manage a fully functioning coffee bar, gaining valuable business, hospitality, and leadership skills.

  • 🔬 STEAM-focused spaces at the Elementary Center are being equipped with hands-on, tech-rich tools.

  • 🎮 Our E-Games & Cybersecurity Lab is almost ready to welcome future tech experts!

💛 Enhanced Student Support

We’re expanding our support services to ensure every student can thrive:

  • 🧠 Ms. Monet Wade, our full-time School Psychologist, has joined the team.

  • 🤝 Chris Barr, our new full-time Social Worker.

  • Emotional Support: We are increasing our capacity to provide dedicated emotional support for students at all grade levels, fostering a safe and understanding environment.

  • Autistic Support: New programs and resources are being implemented to provide tailored support for students on the autism spectrum, ensuring they have the tools to succeed.

  • Learning Support Services: Our learning support services are being expanded to offer more individualized and small-group instruction for students who require additional academic assistance.

  • 🐾 The PAL Pet-Assisted Reading Program launches next month – reading buddies with paws!

  • 🌱 Our “Plant a Seed” SEL initiative is off to a strong start at the Elementary level.

📘 Exciting Curriculum & Academic Updates

We’re launching fresh programs and academic upgrades to prepare our students for the future:

  • 💻 Digital Greyhounds, our Cyber Academy, is now enrolling for the upcoming semester.

  • 🥁 The Greyhound Drumline continues to energize the community and build spirit.

  • 🎨 Registration is open for the Mon Valley Arts & Music Academy after-school programs.

  • 📊 New Grading Scale Implementation (Fall 2025): To simplify and clarify grading, we are transitioning to a tens-based scale:

  • A: 90–100

  • B: 80–89

  • C: 70–79

  • D: 60–69

  • F: 59 & below

🤖 AI Partnership with Your Way AI:

We’re proud to announce a new partnership with Your Way AI, a cutting-edge educational technology platform. This collaboration will help us:

  • Personalize learning pathways for students

  • Use data insights to support academic growth

  • Implement AI tools that assist teachers in identifying student needs in real-time

Additions to the Hound Hub at the Middle/High School

Brewing Confidence & Building Skills: Expanding Real-Life Opportunities in the Hound Hub As we continue shaping the future of “ The New Modern Monessen,” one of our most important responsibilities is preparing every student—not just academically, but for life beyond the classroom. That’s why I’m excited to share two exciting initiatives we’re working on right here in the Hound Hub at the middle/high school, specifically designed to provide meaningful, real-world experiences for our life -skills students. First, we have developed a student-run coffee shop inside the Hound Hub. This space will not only serve fresh coffee and light snacks to staff and students, but more importantly, it will serve as a hands-on learning environment. Our life skills students will take on responsibilities ranging from customer service and money management to food preparation and inventory. The goal is to give students the confidence, independence, and workplace experience they need to succeed in life....

Industrial Lessons: Why Schools must evolve or be left behind

Recently, I was driving through Eastern Ohio after my son's hockey tournament when something struck me: the landscape was full of shut-down and abandoned steel mills—massive buildings that once stood as symbols of strength and prosperity, now silent and forgotten. The sight stayed with me. It made me ask, What happened to all of them? So, I researched it. And what I found was not just a history lesson-it was a warning. Those mills didn’t fail because people stopped working hard. They collapsed because leadership failed to adapt. Because systems stayed rigid while the world changed around them.
